A New Challenge - Hosted By Valiantly Varnished

Hello lovelies!

Well it's been a few months since I've taken part in any challenges. I even missed the tri-polish challenge for August. But I'd taken on too much and I just wasn't enjoying myself.

So now a few months later, the rafters are clear and I've found a challenge that infancy giving a whirl.

Hosted by http://www.valiantlyvarnished.com

Hope you enjoy my interpretation of each topic xo

Taras Talons - Try Something New

Hello lovelies!

Try Something New is a medium toned pink, hinting towards mauve.  It has a slight pink shimmer through it which does transfer to the nail.  It has pink and silver hexes as well as silver bar glitter (which I do admittedly hate, but that's just me).

The polish was initially quite sheer but 3 coats built up a nice opacity.  There wasn't too much of a problem with the bar glitters, they lay flat which was great.

This is a nice understated colour that would be an ideal "work" colour.

Taras Talons - Teddy Bear & Paris Sparkle - Brownie Delight

Hello lovelies!

Well I'd been off work ill but making the most of my time (when I was awake) and working on challenge mani's so I decided to take a day off and read a book (The Mortal Instruments - City of Bones).  I thought "I need a nice proper mani", so this is what I came up with.

Teddy Bear is a creamy chocolate brown with a silver shimmer throughout.  Again a gorgeous formula that just flowed onto the nail.

This would be a lovely colour to wear alone or with a nice stamp but I really fancied some glitter.  This is where Brownie Delight comes in.  I'd say this was a brown jelly base, full of brown and holographic glitters which gave it a lovely twinkle.  The real winner for me was the teal hex glitters, they gave it the perfect pop of colour.

A super rich mani that would look amazing in the Autumn but I'm not one to stick to seasonal colours so I'm quite happy wearing it now.

Paris Sparkles - Teal Me About It

Hello lovelies!

Paris Sparkles is a new Indie brand to me. It can be found here. I'd seen these polishes on Facebook before but just never had the money to purchase any. But when there was an initial offer of 5 for $25 I couldn't resort but the offer was even better and I got 7 for $25! Bargain!!

Teal Me About It is a lovely teal creme with large navy and grey hexes, as well as a smattering of holographic glitter.

The formula was lovely and this is 2 coats.

I can't wait to try out the rest of the polishes that I have and get my hands on some more beauties!

Urban Nails

Hello Lovelies!

The lovely Wendy over at Wendy's Delights and I have been friends for a few years now, she's such a sweetheart.  And when she knew it was my birthday she sent me a lovely gift including lots of goodies she knew I'd love including a fluffy pen, penguin themed card, stickers and of course nail polish.

This polish duo features a pink/red creme and a black/white glitter top coat.

Here's the red/pink on it's own.  It looks red in the bottle but once on the nail it has this gorgeous pink undertone to it.

I then topped it with the fab black/white glitter topper, doesn't it look great!

Thanks again Wendy for all my lovely gifts!! xo

Avon - Polish Fail

Hello lovelies!

I recently bought some Avon Nailwear Pro+ Polishes. And I gotta say disappointment is an understatement!

I got:
Fiery Sky
Cosmic Trip
Starry Night
Celestial Blue

Pros - I can't think of any...

Cons -
The formula was like water.
5-6 coats it was still sheer.
The glitter didn't transfer to the nail well.
It was just a runny mess.

Here's some pics I took anyway...

Not the best swatches but there's only so many coats of polish you can paint before giving it up for a bad job.

Have you tried these? Or have you had a polish be as big a fail?

Nails Inc - Raphael Street

Hello lovelies!

Raphael Street is also from the Iridescent Set.

It's midnight blue though in the bottle it looks very close to Elm Park Road.

It's got a gold and silver shimmer.

This will be really nice for the autumn/winter.

Nails Inc - Elm Park Road

Hello lovelies!

Elm Park Road is an eggplant purple.

It's got gold and copper shimmer.

I think this was from the Iridescent Set from QVC though I got it in TK Maxx.

I really enjoyed wearing this.

I'm Batman!

Hello lovelies!

So I was on tenterhooks to find out who the new Batman was only to discover they'd cast Ben Affleck... What the actual feck?? So not impressed!

So I did a Batman mani to cheer me up.

Polishes Used:
Color Club - Sky High
Paris Sparkles - Peacock
Barry M - Silver Foil
Fun Plate #11

I've gotta say Sky High in its own is a gorgeous colour but my pictures here suck!

I've been tangoed!!

Nails Inc - Lyall Street & Cadogan Gate

Hello lovelies!!

No it's not Christmas in August, despite the colour combo I've used here.

Lyall Street is a holly green with a gold shimmer through it.

It looks much darker over the red but it's still kept that shimmer.

Cadogan Gate can be described as nothing but Santa red!

It too has a lovely gold shimmer.

I went for the art deco cloud design, just for a wee bit of "art".

Nails Inc - Little Portland Street

Hello lovelies!

I've got another pretty Nails Inc fine sprinkles - Little Portland Street.

This is a nice medium pink, opaque in 2 coats.

Black and gold glitter running through it.

What I like about the fine sprinkles is that they are much easier to remove than the regular sprinkles.  I think this is very girly!

Nails Inc - Langham Street & Devonshire Place

Hello lovelies!

A toned down mani today. Using Nails Inc fine sprinkles (I nabbed these cheap in TK Maxx).

Langham Street is a cream base full of gold glitter/sprinkles. It's really shimmery.

Devonshire Place is more beige with gold and black glitter running through it. It reminds me of sand, in a good way.

Bit too grown up for me, as it was, so I added these pretty black flowers (with a lovely reddish tinge).

Nails Inc - Abbey Road

Hello lovelies!!

I used Abbey Road today. Nails Inc's attempt at a holo. It's ok for what it is, a scattered holo, though I found it to have a gritty glittery finish (if that makes sense?)

I decided this wasn't enough on its own so I added some Audrey Hepburn - Breakfast at Tiffany's water decals I've had lying around for ages.

They look good!!

Nails Inc - Notting Hill Carnival & Justice Walk

Hello lovelies!

A bit of a summery mani today.

Notting Hill Carnival is a pastel yellow, perfect for what should be the summer. I popped some little flutterbies on my ring and thumb to prettify it a bit.

To the other nails I added 1 coat of Justice Walk, a copper nail jewellery.

I'm hoping this wills the sunshine back to Northern Ireland. I'm fed up with the torrential rain.

Nails Inc - Chester Street & Royal Opera Arcade

Hello lovelies!!

I had originally planned on a more matchy matchy combo but I changed my mind at the last minute and I'm glad that I did.

Chester Street is a lovely nude that has quite a matte finish with a silvery shimmer throughout.

Lovely on it's own yes, but how about adding Royal Opera Arcade, a gorgeous purple nail jewellery.

And a wee dragonfly/flower decal on my ring and thumb, just to make it complete.

Super cute combo!
